I am old. Perhaps not in the sense that I experienced the end of WW2, or watched the McCarthy hearings on the newfangled invention called "television", but old nonetheless. You are probably old too, or else you wouldn't have clicked on this subject title. So, let's get that out of the way.
Growing old is not for sissies. I often equate my current state in automotive terms: it's hard to find parts for the older models, and it's a pain to find someone who can work on me since my warranty has expired, I'm fully depreciated, and my salvage value is crap. I represent sunk cost for my wife, who has 43 years of experience working with me. And I'm worth more dead than alive.
Things we used to take for granted are now Major Issues. Things like running. Or even walking fast. Of staying up late, getting up early, and being Mr. GoGetEm full time. Back when I was bulletproof. You know what I'm talking about--the aches and pains that seem to be present all the time. The extra recovery time needed from having a "big" day. The new definition of a "big" day, which is nowhere near what it was 10/20/30 years ago.
All this interacts with major events in our lives. Those tectonic events that define our next phase. Job. Kids. Time management. Relationships.
That's what we're gonna talk about. In some gruesome detail. Stay tuned. The Roller Coaster has left the station and is starting that inexorable climb towards the first drop. Hands up, if you dare...
